Gratitude Day 884

Hebrews 10:35: So don’t throw away your confidence—it brings a great reward.

Independence. Confidence. Attributes we desire for our young people to have.

Yet sometimes, these are qualities that people struggle with. How might they discover their own ability to be confident with themselves? Can they create a sense of independence?

Step in HorseSense, a non-profit organization that has spent the last 30 plus years empowering thousands establish and maintain their own independence and confidence.

Using the friendship of a horse, HorseSense is dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with and without disabilities through weekly therapeutic horseback riding lessons. How do participants benefit? They discover a positive environment for learning. Learn their individual capabilities. Often, their physical health improves and they embrace a sense of accomplishment and control.

HorseSense works with youth and adults that have cognitive, physical and psychological disabilities. Through riding lessons, participants increase their balance and coordination, and strengthen their muscles. They also practice their speech, reading and problem-solving capabilities as they learn to follow instructions.

The list of benefits from these interactive lessons are long and significant. But the most important impact of therapeutic horseback riding is clarifying participants their identities. Riders build their self-esteem and self-efficacy by regulating their emotions and converting negative feelings into constructive motivation. Learned lessons reach well beyond riding lessons, as riders carry these lessons into their everyday lives.

HorseSense also has a program specifically designed for veterans with programs that are tailored for those who are recovering from injuries sustained while serving their country.

While there are a variety of programs that HorseSense raises funds for, we have chosen to support their “A Bale a Day” program. HorseSense has seven therapy horses. It costs about $5 per day, the cost of a bale of hay, to feed each horse throughout the winter months or about $7,500. Any donation made as part of Our Monthly Resolution will go towards supporting the one bale of hay needed for each horse during the months. We know it’s a little early for winter hay, but know this is a specific need they have each winter.

How many hay bales can you help supply this winter?

We love all the great things that HorseSense builds into their therapy. Most importantly, helping people become more confident and independent impresses us. Please join us in supporting HorseSense this month and encourage others to do the same. Any size donation makes a difference. It’s just $5 day for a bale of hay!
