Mark 10:14 – When Jesus saw this, he became angry and said, “Let the children come to me! Don’t try to stop them. People who are like these little children belong to the kingdom of God.

Gratitude Day 844

Shouldn’t every kid battling cancer receive happy mail, hugs and kisses?

This is the idea behind our July Our Monthly Resolution, Project Angel Hugs.

Project Angel Hugs began when Vanessa Jensema went through leukemia treatment when she was 6-years-old. “Nessa’s Project” was created to spread joy and hope to other children affected by cancer. After a courageous battle, Vanessa passed away. Her spirit of giving and love for life continue through Project Angel Hugs.

Today, Project Angel Hugs is dedicated to nurturing a passion for service within the hearts of youth will recognizing the emotional needs of children who have been touched by cancer, along with their families.

How does Project Angel Hug do this? They have a few different programs:

An Angel KISS e-card – sent once a month to bring a smile to a child’s face. It’s a reminder that someone is cheering them on.

An Angel HUG Program – a box of toys and gifts, candy and seasonal goodies, the boxes are tailor made to each child’s likes and needs. Boxes are sent six times a year, usually around a holiday or birthday. The HUG boxes are mailed to the child’s home address. If there are siblings under 15, something is included for them as well. HUG boxes include a small craft item handmade by someone.

Local Youth Mission – Prayer Angel Hugs focuses on working with youth as one of their ministry programs. Local youth are encouraged to visit their office, participate and learn more about Project Angel Hug’s mission. Youth who participate create a KISS for another youth on their first visit. They hope is youth will return and become involved in other projects.

What is their impact? In 2022, Project Angel Hugs:

  • Sent 1395 Hug Boxes
  • Sent 125 Gift Card Hugs
  • Provided 205 Holiday Card Hugs
  • Enrolled 16 new families
  • Touched 404 total families through their program from 45 different states in the U.S. and the United Kingdom
  • Delivered 72 HUGS to Children’s Hospital
