Matthew 19:14 – But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and don’t try to stop them! People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom.”

Gratitude Day 846

Just a few days ago, I held a new little baby. He was cuddly and sweet and smelled heavenly. He has great parents who only want the best for him.

When this family was expecting, friends and family members were encouraged to donate diapers for the upcoming baby. What a great idea! This family will need diapers for months and they have a wonderful amount to start with.

Unfortunately, not all families are this fortunate.

Creating a better place to live. This is the core value of the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, the Our Monthly Resolution non-profit organization for August. It began when the public health issues of diaper need and period poverty came to light. Meagon Johnson, a stay-at-home mom with two little boys in diapers, discover that thousands of people in the Milwaukee area do not have their basic needs met. In fact, she discovered that one in two families struggle with this issue.

So, in 2020, the Milwaukee Diaper Mission was formed. MDM partners with local social service agencies to distribute disposable and reusable diapering and period supplies to families in need. These products are made available to families at no cost. Products are distributed through partnering organizations such as food pantries, home visiting agencies, mutual aid groups and organizations that support families through pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

By utilizing existing agencies for distribution, 100 percent of donated dollars go towards supporting families that need these products.

The needs are staggering. Over 5 million babies in the U.S. live in low-income or poverty homes. With disposable diapers costing $70-80/month, the cost can be prohibitive. No national programs provide diapers to families in need. One in four people struggle to purchase period products because of a lack of funds. When females do not have necessary products, they miss school, work, and other daily life opportunities.

This is where MDM steps in. They work with the National Diaper Bank to acquire diapers at costs less than big box stores sell products for. They provide period products for free as well.

MDM has truly served the Milwaukee area. Their statistics are amazing:

1 million disposable diapers

355,800 disposable period products

22,600 packages of baby wipes

3,300 cloth diapers

1,400 cloth pads

223 menstruation cups

Unfortunately, I am aware these problems do exist. In Milwaukee and all across the U.S. Thankfully, I have been involved in non-profit organizations that have helped people in need with these specific items. By joining together through Our Monthly Resolution, we can help similar families in the Milwaukee area.  Will you join us in supporting the Milwaukee Diaper Mission during August?

Let’s help families, babies, females have access to the basic needs they have. Let’s support this organization or one similar during August.

For the ability to help families who have core needs, I am very grateful.
