May I encourage us a bit today?

Encourage us to be a bit more generous with something?

KINDNESS.

Today, let’s try to be a kind person.

The kind of person that speaks more positive words than negative words.

The kind of person that looks for opportunities to encourage someone else; not discourage them.

The kind of person who invites their neighbor to pick raspberries because, well, just because.

The kind of person who says “Please” and “Thank You” regularly.

The kind of person who brings water to their loved one when they desperately need it.

The kind of person who looks for beauty in the smallest of things.

The kind of person who shares something they love with someone else.

The kind of person who celebrates every little thing that brings them joy.

The kind of person who deeply appreciates and celebrates gratitude daily.

The kind of person who needs no recognition or admiration … and extends kindness anyways.

The kind of person who listens more than speaks.

The kind of person who embodies the attributes that Jesus taught of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

The kind of person who thinks of others before thinking of him or herself.

The kind of person who happily gives of themselves.

The kind of person who does all of this and more … just because.

It’s this simple. And this hard.

Can we be agents of kindness today?

This weekend?

Every day.

Maybe, it might make a difference in someone else’s lives.

Maybe, it might make a difference in our lives.

For the opportunity to see kindness all around me, I am grateful.

Dear God – When someone else chooses not to be kind, may I respond with kindness just because. When I know it would be easier to not be kind, remind me that Jesus was perpetually kind. When I think it will be too hard or difficult to be kind, help me choose kindness anyways. Help me be the kind of person that includes You and models You in my every-day life. Amen.
