Gratitude Day 575

John 15:11 – My purpose for telling you these things is so that the joy that I experience will fill your hearts with overflowing gladness!

It is AMAZING how to feels when some little thing is accomplished.

This aren’t big things. Just simple, little things that can provide a big sense of accomplishment.

It happened to me yesterday. I’ve had this one phone call on my list of things to do for about 10 days. Yesterday, I made the call. What I anticipated would be a long, drawn-out call took about three minutes. Literally. It’s taken me longer than three minutes to write it on my to-do list for the past 10 days.

All I needed to do was simply make the phone call.

A few days ago, we looked at doing something for 20-minutes a day to help accomplish something you’d like to do.

Today, we’re making it even more simple. We’re taking 5 minutes. These are bigger projects or something that is more involved. These 5-minute little things literally take 5 minutes … or less. But it’s something you’ve been putting off or ignoring or delaying. Truth be known, if we’d just buckle down and do it, it will feel SO. MUCH. BETTER.

These aren’t super complicated:

  • A phone call.
  • An e-mail.
  • Moving something.
  • Getting rid of something.
  • Doing something for someone who has requested it more than once … and it’s just a simple little thing.

Why are these little things a big thing? Because we put more time, thought and energy into them than it would take simply to do it. And because we’ve invested this energy and time, we lack energy and time to do something that requires more time and attention. Something that maybe only we can do. Something that allows for you to give back to God’s kingdom.

Your Lenten practice today? Take one of those and do it. Pick the one thing that you’ve been putting off for too long. Give yourself a gift and just do it. It won’t be as difficult as you think. It might even take less time. And it will feel great to have it completed.

When I do one of these little things, I am always amazed how easy it is. How it requires less time than I anticipate. And how completing it really brings me great joy.

That’s right. Joy. In knowing that it’s done.

So, find just one of those little things. And do it today.

Find that joy, that sense of accomplishment because you completed something that’s been nagging you for a while.

In doing so? You’ll have more time and energy for the bigger projects. And less distraction.

For the opportunity to eliminate something that’s been holding me back, I am grateful.

Blessings –

Dianne

Almighty God – Why do I put so much time and energy into something that really isn’t that difficult? Why do I withhold joy and happiness from myself? May I see the benefit of doing something easy. Simple. Quick. But helps me feel a sense of accomplishment. I know it will free up some space in my life. Space that I can spend with You. Amen.
