Gratitude Day 569

Psalm 19:5 – What a heavenly home God has set for the sun, shining in the superdome of the sky! See how he leaves his celestial chamber each morning, radiant as a bridegroom ready for his wedding, like a day-breaking champion eager to run his course.

Lent 2021 begins SOON. On Wed., Feb. 17. It’s the day we would traditionally receive ashes and/or communion.

But in the midst of a pandemic? Ash Wednesday will probably look quite different for many Christians. We may or may not have an opportunity to worship. Our Lenten practices maybe more up to us to decide what and how to draw ourselves closer to God in the 40 days before Easter.

This is where I CAN help out. I’m encouraging you all to join in the “Decrease for 40 Days: Lent 2020” opportunity. How do you do this? It’s really easy.

Print off or download the attached Lent2020 Calendar. Follow along with the suggestion for each day.

This Lenten practice combines some doing activities with some being disciplines. A self-proclaimed Martha, I spend way too much of my life doing, doing, doing. While I appreciate being challenges, I also know that balancing them with some doing activities will keep my heart and soul invested in this Lent 2020 challenge.

You can spend as much or as little time with each daily opportunity. I suggest dedicating 15 minutes to the task so you can truly get something out of the activity. It might be helpful to use a journal to capture your thoughts and feelings throughout these 40 days. On Easter Sunday, you can then go back and see where you have grown. Changed. Contemplated. Explored. Because this is what Lent is about: a specific chunk of days where we are given the opportunity to draw ourselves closer and deeper to God.

Now, this just won’t happen. It requires some effort, planning and intention on our part. The good news? I’ve done most of the planning for you. You just need to participate.

I also encourage you to follow me on Instagram. Each day, I’ll post a short little reflection about the thought/challenge for the day. These will be short. Just a few minutes along. But a quick way to see how I’m thinking about the daily challenge in my life. You can find me on Instagram at diannedeatonvielhuber.

Daily blogs on Simple Words of Faith will also focus on the daily challenge of the day. Please subscribe to the daily blog so you won’t miss one of these challenges! This way, the blog also makes it into your email box!

I am feeling the longing and desire to go deeper with God this Lent. I encourage and pray that you’ll want to do this as well. Let’s do this together with the “Decrease for 40 Days: Lent 2020.”

See you tomorrow on the blog and Instagram … sharing about Lent 2021.

For the opportunity to grow closer to You, O God, during Lent, I am grateful.

Blessings –

Dianne
