Gratitude Day 560

Fri., Jan. 22, 2021

Proverbs 17:22 – A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

This is the honest-to-goodness-truth. When someone wants a super-duper “fun” person to hang around, I’m probably not their first choice.

I’m not the life of the party. Nor the person who everybody wants to know my name. I’m not the one who pulls our random jokes and gets everyone belly laughing in the first 10 minutes of being together.

No, this would-be Hubby Rick.

I’m the dependable one. The one who tries to be fair, honest, and level-headed.

Yes, Hubby Rick can fill all of those attributes. But let’s be honest. The grandkids know who the “fun” grandparent in our household is.

And who will settle the dispute.

They know which grandparent colors outside of the lines more often and which one sets the boundaries.

As our granddaughter Ellie once said, “He’s the FUN grandpa.”

Honestly, some days? I wish I were the “fun” one. The person who can magically make everyone giggle and roll their eyes and feel right at home … all in the same minute.

But I’m not.

Lately, it feels like I’m missing some lightness in my life. Everything feels heavy. Daunting. Like I’m carrying a ton of bricks on my back.

Anyone else feeling this?

Don’t get me wrong. There are times the “fun” grandparent in our household is melancholy. But this isn’t a normal thing.

So, today, I’m going to be lighter. Freer. Less down and more out.

Will I magically become the super “fun” person everyone wants to know my name? And be around? And hang out with?

Nope. Probably isn’t going to happen.

But I can walk a little lighter in my step today.

If you could pick just one thing that YOU could do different today, what would it be?

Now, go live it. Be it. Try it, even if it’s not your normal MO.

And let me know how you feel at the end of the day.

For the crazy and fun grandparent who lives in my household, I am grateful.

Blessings –

Dianne

Lord God – Maybe it’s pandemic fatigue. Or we’re in the middle of winter. Or we just yearn to do something more normal. We all maybe struggling with something that we’d like to change. Maybe it’s outside of our normal personality. Or possibly it’s something we used to embody more and for whatever reason, we aren’t right now. Place on our hearts just one or two small ways we can change today. And help us feel a bit lighter in our steps. Amen.
