1 Kings 8:54-55 – Solomon had been kneeling with his hands outstretched toward heaven. As he finished this prayer, he rose from before the altar of Jehovah and cried out a blessing upon all the people of Israel.

Prayer is a blessing. I consider the following prayer, written by a Benedictine nun from North Dakota named Sister Ruth Fox, a true blessing.

May God bless you with discomfort at each answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart. May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace. May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation and war, so that you may reach out your had to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy. And may God bless you with enough follishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. Amen.

May we all be blessed by Sister Ruth Fox’s prayer.

For prayer, I am grateful.

Blessings –

Dianne
