Passport to Prayer – Lent 2016
Monday – Feb. 22, 2016
1 Kings 19:11: The Lord said (to Elijah), “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Elijah has been running for his life away from Jezebel. He runs to Mount Horeb, the mountain of God. He stands on the mountain side, waiting for God. God doesn’t come in a great wind or an earthquake or in fire. No, God came as a gentle whisper. Read this story in 1 Kings 19:1-18. God came as the silence after the storm.
Have you heard God in the silence? Pick one word to represent God. Reflect on that word. Listen quietly. Thank God for being with you.
Elijah was a very special person, O God. Yet, this ordinary guy also complained to you about his life. Please help me become more aware and sensitive to your presence with me. Teach me to still myself and listen for you. Help me distinguish your “voice” in my life and in the silence. Amen.
Blessings –
Dianne
