Jeremiah 1:5 – Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Gratitude Day 945

Several years ago, I had a request from Hubby Rick. Please don’t buy me a birthday present or a Christmas present. I’ll get by with the car I have. But please, please, please . . . can we get our affairs in order?

It took a while, some persistence and more than one difficult conversation, but we did it. We have revisited our affairs more than once to make sure they still represent what we want, which is also important because things change. While I am sure there is something we haven’t accounted for, I do believe we have much of it taken care of.

Now, imagine that you have a special needs dependent as part of your family. Someone who really cannot express for him or herself their wishes. Or may not comprehend all the complicated requirements of social security, health insurance, medications and so many other things.

How do these families get their affairs in order for their dependent child?

It’s a problem.

This is exactly what an organization such as Moran’s Caring Connection is so important. And why this organization is this month’s Our Monthly Resolution selection.

More than once, I have been aware of a family with a special needs dependent who has gone through the process of getting their child’s affairs in order. It’s important. Who will make their health care decisions once they are 18? If they qualify for social security benefits, who will handle it? Who will oversee their medications, financial decisions and be the next caregiver? All difficult questions with often challenging answers.

This is exactly why Morgan’s Caring Connection exists—so families don’t have to navigate complex decisions alone. Whether it’s creating a special needs trust, finding the right legal guidance, or simply knowing where to begin, they are ready to help. They have built a network of professionals who understand the journey of pulling together the necessary information and documents and are willing to walk with families through the process.

Morgan’s Caring Connection’s mission is to empower families with special needs dependents by providing essential grants to cover legal fees for wills, trusts, special needs trusts, powers of attorney, guardianship and other critical documents. They provide support to families through financial support, resources and education.

Dear God – Thank you for every single person You created. For those families who need a few extra resources and guidance, I pray it will be provided, if in a special and unique way. May we support these families in meaningful ways. Amen.
